Join the Oakland Metro Chamber for a legislative update. Senator Nancy Skinner represents California’s 9th Senate District. A social justice advocate, energy and climate change trailblazer, and accomplished legislator, Skinner completed three terms in the state Assembly, before being elected to the Senate in 2016 and re-elected in 2020. A graduate of UC Berkeley with a BS and an MA, Skinner currently serves on eight committees and is chair of the Public Safety Committee and the Public Safety Budget Committee. Assemblymember Rob Bonta was elected to the California State Assembly's 18th District in 2012 where he became the first Filipino American state legislator in California’s then 160-plus-year history. In the State Assembly, Bonta currently serves as the Assistant Majority Leader. He serves on the Appropriations, Communications and Conveyance, Governmental Organization, and Health Committees. Assemblymember Buffy Wicks was elected to the California state Assembly’s 15th district in 2018 and re-elected in 2020. Assemblymember Wicks’ work in the Assembly focuses on housing, expanding the social safety net, protecting consumers’ privacy, and championing the rights of women and working families. She serves on the Budget, Public Safety, Banking and Finance, Privacy and Consumer Protection, and Rules Committees.
