The Conroy Memorial Organ will soar under the fingers and feet of Bay Area organist John Karl Hirten in concert at 5:00 pm on Sunday, February 3. Admission: free-will offering.
Hirten is well-known locally for his monthly recitals at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor and regular appearances at the Noontime Concerts Series, Music at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Grace Cathedral, and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Berkeley. He has also appeared as organist with the San Francisco Symphony, the Oakland Ballet, the Berkeley Symphony, American Bach Soloists, and others.
A composer of a wide range of liturgical, sacred and secular works, John Karl Hirten’s music has been featured on Minnesota Public Radio’s Pipedreams program and at conventions of the American Guild of Organists and the Association of Anglican Musicians.
Hirten will skillfully demonstrate the capabilities of the Oakland cathedral’s custom-made Létourneau 92 ranks, four-manual, pedal organ with 5298 pipes. The organ is used primarily in liturgy, as well as featured in concerts throughout the year.
The Cathedral of Christ the Light is located on the shore of Lake Merritt. Learn more about the cathedral or this concert at www.ctlcathedral.org.
