Our Songs, Our Stories connects singers of all ages and their families, from all corners of Oakland, Alameda, Richmond, and Berkeley, coming together to share the traditions, songs of diverse cultures of our community, and the power that music represents in our lives to create change. In the words of ED Keri Butkevich: “Our Artistic Director, LaNell Martin, has thoughtfully and responsively programmed a concert which draws from our students’ direct cultural heritages and diversity of experience – creating a forum for celebrating each other and our community through their stories and the songs of their homelands.”

Since 1974, the Oakland Youth Chorus has created harmony and respect for diversity throughout our rapidly changing community. Bringing together over 2000 young musicians each year to build friendships and lift their voices together joyfully in song, OYC invites you join us in community with our students from all over Oakland and the East Bay.

OYC builds community and understanding through musical excellence and has represented Oakland in seven states and three countries as Oakland’s Musical Youth Ambassadors. This combination of inclusive access to quality music education, commitment to community, and excellence in education and performance has changed the lives of Oakland and East Bay children and youth for generations.
