REGISTRATION IS CLOSED AS OF WEDNESDAY, MAY 2ND AT 5:00PM

    2012 Northern California MegaRegion Summit

Join us in the Heart of the Northern California MegaRegion on Friday, May 4, 2012 for an educational half-day conference. save the date front.jpgEvent Summary:

Participants will convene by Noon at the Jack London Market Building (55 Harrison St, Oakland CA) for a series of keynote addresses, setting the context for our continued work in the Northern California MegaRegion, situating Oakland’s Port, City, and associated commerce, technology, and logistic cap
abilities at the heart of a thriving trade hub. At the conclusion of the keynote, the participants will choose to attend one of three breakout sessions (“mobile workshops”) offered and described in detail below. The entire group will reconvene to share lessons learned, and identify priority economic development goals for the region. The event will conclude with a reception catered by Oakland Restaurant Association member eateries, vintners, and brewers. Following the close of the formal program, participants will be encouraged to stay into the evening and experience Oakland’s unique Art Murmur open gallery walk event in the nearby Uptown neighborhood (accessible via the Free Broadway Shuttle), held on the First Friday of every month.

    Select your Mobile Workshop:

With the support of the local technology community, the Port of Oakland, and the City of Oakland you can choose from the following in-depth mobile workshops. Each session will feature experts in the field and provide you with a deeper understanding of the given topic:

    • Business & the Port of Oakland - This workshop tours Oakland’s Port (the 5th busiest container Port in the country) by boat and features an in-depth discussion on maritime, aviation, and commercial real estate opportunities with the Port and its business partners at Oakland International Airport and Jack London Square.

    • Commercial Development in the City of Oakland – This workshop will examine the question, “What is the service, entertainment, and retail follow up to Oakland’s 10K housing initiative of the early 2000s?” In a roving bus classroom, workshop participants will traverse Oakland’s arterial Broadway corridor from the “Hills to Bay” and explore its development potential. This workshop will further explore the work of Oakland's 2012 Urban Land Institute (ULI) Daniel Rose Fellowship program.

    • Technology and Innovation Panel Discussion – This workshop will examine Oakland’s diverse and thriving technology sector. Participants will walk to Sungevitiy’s new Jack London Square headquarters for a comprehensive conversation on Oakland’s advancements in green innovation, new media, venture capital, and technology workforce development. This workshop will also include a guided tour of Sungevitiy’s innovative business incubator space for Oakland start-ups. Panelists include:

    ·         Danny Kennedy, Sungevity, Founder
