Menbere Aklilu at Holy Names University
Menbere Aklilu is the owner of Salute e Vita Ristorante, located in the historic Marina Bay where Rosie the Riveter constructed Liberty Ships in World War II. Aklilu worked her way from being pregnant in a Rome homeless shelter to becoming owner of Salute. As reported by KTVU News, she opened her restaurant to 600 homeless diners on Thanksgiving. Salute e Vita Ristorante is one of the 2009 Contra Costa Woman-Owned Businesses of the Year. The year 2013 marks the10th anniversary that Aklilu became owner of Salute e Vita Ristorante.
