Inside Oakland-Oakland's New $20 Million Public Safety Measure

Join us for an update on an important measure that will go before voters in November—and let’s talk about public safety in Oakland.

Background: For the last 10 years, through a per parcel tax that is currently just under $100, Measure Y has provided around $20 million annually to fund fire, police, and violence prevention programs in the City of Oakland, around 5% of the total cost of these services. At the end of this year, Measure Y expires, potentially blowing a $20 million hole in the City’s already challenged budget.


Councilmember Lynette Gibson McElhaney  (District 3) has stepped up and led a diverse coalition of stakeholders through a process of developing a stronger success measure, which will go before Oakland voters this November.
