Join us for an inspiring and candid conversation with Nikki Fortunato Bas, Alameda County’s newly elected Supervisor for District 5, featured in this month’s Inside Oakland forum. As a lifelong organizer, working mom, and daughter of Filipino immigrants, Nikki has been at the forefront of progressive leadership in Oakland for years. During her tenure on the Oakland City Council (2019–2024), she served as Council President (2021–2024) and even briefly stepped in as Interim Mayor amid fiscal turbulence in late 2024. Her impactful work includes leading the most robust COVID‑19 eviction moratorium in California, launching community land trust funds for permanently affordable housing, expanding violence-intervention programs, and bringing mobile crisis response through Oakland Fire Department teams to address mental health emergencies.
