EBWIBR Luncheon Series Featuring Deanna Santana

The East Bay Women in Business Roundtable is proud to kick off our 2013 Speaker Series "Women of Distinction" with a special presentation from Oakland City Administrator Deanna Santana

With almost 20 years of experience in public service, Deanna has been serving as Oakland’s City Administrator since August 1, 2011. She is a recognized leader in public policy and local government management.

Prior to her current position, Deanna held several executive positions and worked on a variety of high level initiatives for San Jose, CA.   In San Jose, Deanna served as a Deputy City Manager supporting the City Manager by overseeing many high-profile projects both within the Public Safety City Service, Environment & Utility Service, and various executive functions of the City Manager’s Office.   A sampling of these high-profile projects include: advancing various government reforms related to budget/fiscal, pension & labor; procuring, negotiating and implementing San Jose’s garbage, recycling and green waste hauler contracts—which, at that time, represented the largest contracts of this type in the nation; advancing the interests of San Jose, Oakland and San Francisco relative to nationwide public safety radio communications interoperability and, developing shared regional guiding principles and negotiating San Jose’s 911 Emergency Medical Services Agreement with the County of Santa Clara.

In addition to her role as Deputy City Manager, she has also served as the City Manager’s Chief of Staff and City Clerk.  Deanna is distinguished as one of three individuals appointed by Mayor Chuck Reed to serve on his Leadership Transition Team when he assumed office in 2006. Deanna began her career in public service as a Management Intern with the City of Oakland. Deanna holds two Bachelor of Art degrees, in Rhetoric and Ethnic Studies, from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
