Today we are faced with a shifting economy and the issues of poverty in our community
are even more urgent. The ''Walk To End Poverty'' is a free community event designed to help raise public awareness about the conditions of those who live in poverty and their daily struggle to provide life's basic necessities for themselves and their families. Show your support and attend the ''Walk To End Poverty'' at 644 Bellevue Avenue, Lake Merritt Bandstand, Saturday May 30th, 2009.
Participants will meet at the Lake Merritt Bandstand to register for the walk between 8am and 9am.
First 400 to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Alameda County Community Food Bank who register to walk will receive a free t-shirt. Walk around the lake (9am to 10am), enjoy water and a snack
and visit the Community Fair (10am to 2pm) with local agencies offering help and advice to those in need. Stay for the awards ceremony with local elected officials and live entertainment hosted by comedian and actor Mark Curry, Master of Ceremonies.
The 4th Annual ''Walk to End Poverty'' is presented by the City of Oakland in collaboration with the Community Action Partnership (CAP) agency and Catholic Charities of the East Bay, along with local business sponsors and generous donations from the community.
