Who are Oakland's Downtown Singers? We are you! We invite you to sing with Cantare Con Vivo's newest choir, no audition required. We will learn 5-7 songs in a variety of styles: contemporary, folk, light classical, and standards. The 2017 Spring Series will meet weekly on Thursdays starting April 20, running through Thursday, June 8 from 6:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.
Repertoire includes "Seasons of Love" from the musical Rent; Irving Berlin's "Give Me Your Tired", whose words inspired by the Statue of Liberty are more relevant today than ever; a gospel song, "Freedom Train"; Bruce Springsteen's "The Rising", a song written in response to 911; and a setting of Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken", a poem first published in 1916. These are just some of the selections in store for the Downtown Singers.
For those who enjoy performing for others, we will offer an optional, complimentary debut show for friends and co-workers on Thursday, June 15 at 6:00 p.m. The series tuition is $100 per singer. The Downtown Singers will be conducted by Cantare Con Vivo's founder and Artistic Director, David Morales. www.cantareconvivo.org/downtown-singers
