Join us and a select group of business leaders for a breakfast that will lay the groundwork for this year's diabetes walk. It is scheduled for June 9th from 7:45 am at the Washington Inn (495 10th Street, Oakland). The event will include networking opportunities with other local leaders, a delicious breakfast, and above all an inspirational presentation by CBS5's Healthwatch Doctor, Kim Mulvihill, on how your company can cut health care costs by promoting healthy eating and healthy living among employees.
There are 25.8 million Americans who have diabetes, and 1 in 3 children born in 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime. Diabetes touches us all personally and professionally so it is critical that we work together to tackle this international health epidemic. And the statistics are staggering for the East Bay. In 2009, 6.5 % of the population in Alameda County was living with diabetes, compared with 5.3% in Contra Costa County and 5.9% in San Mateo County.
Last year's Walk to Stop Diabetes in Oakland raised over $84,000 to help turn these numbers around, and this year we plan to raise even more to change the future of diabetes! Your endorsement of Step Out 2011 through funding and employee participation will help us reach our goal: to STOP DIABETES!
