Accepting Applications from Girls 13-18yrs old - Oakland Teen Empowerment Pagean

The Welsh Public Relations Group in Oakland, CA, in collaboration with Peralta College Foundation is producing the 1st Annual Empowerment Scholarship Teen Pageant & Brunch, a non-profit event, to be held Saturday July 19, 2014, at the Asian Cultural Center, 388 9th Street, Oakland, CA. The event?s MC is Oakland?s own Celebrity Chef Nikki Shaw wife of Oakland?s own NBA Coach Brian Shaw of the Denver NUGGETS. The pageant producers are seeking sponsors and 30 business owners to act as members of the Mentor Steering Committee. The event is sponsored by Southwest Airlines and Torrey Pines Bank. The organizers are now accepting applications for girls to compete for a scholarship, family vacation, and cash prizes. Teens will be required to attend 12 weeks of classes on college preparation, international issues, social life skills/etiquette, internet training, finance, entrepreneurial skills and local community affairs. The pageant committee has collaborated with the Peralta Colleges Foundation Director, Romeo Garcia, and the ?Rising Scholars? Voices Program? (RSVP), which supports students at the four Peralta Community Colleges (Laney College, Merritt College, College of Alameda and Berkeley City College). The RSVP is a two year program designed to prepare youth for a career or a 4 year university to promote success. The purpose of the pageant is to empower and encourage the future of girls, prevent them from becoming victims, to become college educated, promote community leadership, and to be competitive in the job market. The winners will be selected by a panel of 9 professional judges and sponsors on their communication skills and the content of their character. The deadline to apply is Monday, March 31, 2014. Workshops begin Saturday, April 5, 2014. For more information regarding the Oakland Teen Scholarship Pageant visit the website at www.oaklandscholarshipteenpageant.com.
