SUMMARY:Economic Development Forum: 6/12/2013 New Perspectives from Oakland's Planning and Economic Development Departments
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the June Economic Development Forum with two of Oakland's newest and most influential city staffers\; the Director of Planning and Building\, Rachel Flynn\, AIA and Kelley Kahn\, the Director of the Office of Economic Development.\n\n	Coming aboard in March\, these two new department heads have brought renewed energy and focus to the City of Oakland's planning and economic development efforts. Planning Director Flynn is a licensed architect and urban planner who has more than 25 years of experience in both the public and private sectors. Prior to starting with Oakland\, she served as the Director of Planning and Development for two Virginia cities Richmond and Lynchburg. In these historic cities\, she developed award winning master plans and oversaw a variety of initiatives\, including permitting/inspection systems improvements\, zoning ordinance updates\, GIS mapping upgrades\, new design standards and the creation of form-based codes. Ms. Kahn comes to Oakland with more than 15 years' experience in implementing transformative development initiatives in the Bay Area. Most recently\, she served as a Project Director in the San Francisco Mayor's Office of Economic and Workforce Development\, overseeing the Moscone Convention Center expansion and the redevelopment of Pier 70. Ms. Kahn also directed the Mission Bay redevelopment project\, a 300-acre public/private partnership that has changed Mission Bay from a vacant rail yard into a thriving biotechnology cluster and model of sustainable\, mixed-use development.\n\n	With major planning\, economic development\, and building projects on the horizon for the city\, it's a great time to come listen to these two dynamic leaders discuss their strategy for promoting sustainable growth and development in Oakland over the years to come. Don't miss it.\n\n	With: Rachel Flynn\, AIA Director of Building and Planning and Kelley Kahn\, Director of Economic Development\, City of Oakland. http://www2.oaklandnet.com/.\n\n	Come for a great FREE discussion!\n\n	In 2013\, the Economic Development Forum will present monthly speakers and topics of interest to the Oakland planning and development community.
