SUMMARY:Cruise\, Costumes\, and a Cause - A Celebration of Work
DESCRIPTION:A new spin on a worthy tradition\, this year's Sweeny Awards will be held on Friday\, October 14\, 2016\, on board the Fume Blanc. Business leaders from around the area will attend a spectacular afternoon cruising around the Bay\, enjoying a sit-down lunch\, Halloween fashion show\, live and cause auction and an award celebration befitting Goodwill's Job Training\, and Job Placement Programs.\n\n\n\nPlease consider attending the 2016 'Cruise\, Costumes\, and a Cause' Celebration. Last year\, we served 3\,165 individuals in Alameda\, Contra Costa\, and Solano Counties. Programs are designed to provide individuals with support\, job training\, life skills\, and financial literacy training. This helps participants who are facing barriers to employment\, such as multi-generational poverty\, homelessness\, abuse\, incarceration\, limited education or lack of work experience.\n\n\n\nWhen you support Goodwill Industries of the Greater East Bay\, you can help individuals like Raymond\, a single dad\, who dealt with substance abuse and keeping a job. "I would still be in trouble and doing drugs if Goodwill had not given me a chance\," he says. He gained the skills and support he needed through our Goodwill Academy as a truck driver. Now\, he has permanent employment\, is no longer on government assistance\, and has been sober for over three years. "Goodwill has changed my life and the life of my son for the better. I was given the chance to take responsibility for my life and that of my sons. I am a better citizen and can now give back to society\," Raymond says.\n\n\n\nLast year over $80\,000 was raised during our annual gala. Your partnership is essential to reaching this year's goal. \n\n\n\nThank you for helping those in need obtain a job and keep it. Because jobs change lives!
