Jul 8    A's Game Battle of The Bay

The Oakland A's, the American League Western Division Champions for the past two years, have started their quest for another division title in 2014. And the Chamber is already making plans to help cheer them on to more victories.

The Chamber has reserved a section at one A's game this year that should be of particular interest in the Bay Area. On Tuesday evening, July 8, join Chamber members and staff at O.co Coliseum for the Battle of the Bay - the A's versus the San Francisco Giants.

And then, just to make the game even more enticing, the Chamber has acquired reserved seats on the Plaza Level (second deck) overlooking third base. The first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Tickets for the A's-Giants showdown are just $45 per person ($55 for non-members) and the ticket price is guaranteed - even as regular ticket prices will increase for this great rivalry.

Jul 25    Inside Oakland-Oakland's New $20 Million Public Safety Measure

Join us for an update on an important measure that will go before voters in November—and let’s talk about public safety in Oakland.

Background: For the last 10 years, through a per parcel tax that is currently just under $100, Measure Y has provided around $20 million annually to fund fire, police, and violence prevention programs in the City of Oakland, around 5% of the total cost of these services. At the end of this year, Measure Y expires, potentially blowing a $20 million hole in the City’s already challenged budget.

Councilmember Lynette Gibson McElhaney  (
District 3) has stepped up and led a diverse coalition of stakeholders through a process of developing a stronger success measure, which will go before Oakland voters this November.

Come hear from Councilmember McElhaney herself about the new public safety measure and related efforts to address pervasive public safety challenges in Oakland.
